summary

Daniel Pinzon, a Staff Software Engineer, was selected as one of this quarter’s two Impact Award recipients for work that reflects Notable’s core value of obsessing over outcomes. He built the first tools that connect Notable’s Voice AI Agents to EHR systems, and he is leading work to keep the platform reliable as it grows. He holds himself accountable for results that partners, patients, and providers can count on.

There’s a moment from his work here at Notable that will always stay with Daniel Pinzon: listening to one of our Voice AI Agents handle a tricky patient situation in real time, on its own, without missing a step.

“It was incredibly rewarding,” he says. That Agent was running on foundations Daniel built.

Each quarter, Notable picks two people from a field of nominations to recognize for the impact of their work. This quarter, Daniel is one of them.

A career change

Daniel didn’t come to Notable with a healthcare background. It was his first software engineering job after a career change. He was drawn by the chance to learn quickly, own his work, and explore what interested him professionally. Four and a half years later, he’s a Staff Software Engineer.

“My growth here was fast-tracked by the expertise and generosity of my colleagues,” he says. “Team members take the time to explain complex concepts.” For someone learning healthcare and engineering at once, that support made a big difference.

Building the foundation for Voice AI

Daniel describes his job simply: he builds dependable systems that let our users automate repetitive, time-consuming work. He cares about code quality and stability so those systems can grow without breaking.

That approach shows in one of the projects he’s proudest of: the foundations of Notable’s Voice AI capabilities. Daniel built the first set of tools that connected our Voice AI Agents to EHR systems. Those tools let the Agents verify a patient’s identity, schedule appointments, and follow decision trees on their own, securely, at the moment a patient needs help.

Foundational work rarely gets the spotlight, because it disappears into everything built on top of it. Daniel is happy about that. “It has been great to see the team continuously build upon these foundations to expand our use cases and serve more patients.”

Keeping the platform strong

Today, Daniel is part of the dedicated group of engineers responsible for the core of Notable’s Platform. He earned that place by taking ownership. When the Platform’s growth started putting strain on a key database, Daniel studied how it was being used, got buy-in from other engineers on a plan, and built an automated system to archive older data safely. It’s designed to work through millions of records, so the Platform can keep running reliably as it grows. When some of the hardest technical problems of the past year came up, he was one of the people who helped solve them.

He also raises the bar for everyone else. Over the past six months, Daniel has reviewed about 166 code changes a month. His reviews catch problems before they ever reach customers and help teammates improve their own work.

“Daniel is a fantastic engineer, hitting way above his level,” says Jaz, Principal Software Engineer. “We’d be much slower without his eye for detail and his commitment to quality.”

That’s what obsessing over outcomes, one of Notable’s core values, looks like in practice. For Daniel, the work isn’t done when the code ships. He holds himself accountable for whether it works reliably for the partners, patients, and providers who depend on it.

What comes next

Ask Daniel’s teammates what stands out about him and they’ll mention how humble he is about all of this. He stays this involved because he cares.

Looking ahead, he’s excited about how AI and large language models (LLMs) are expanding what one engineer can do. “Problems that once felt too vast or complex to tackle are now completely within reach,” he says. He also stresses that these tools need to be used safely and thoughtfully. Used that way, they let him build, improve, and deliver at a much larger scale.

What makes Notable special to him is the people: “There is a collaborative enthusiasm across the company for what we are building, and working alongside people who care really stands out.”

Every time one of our Voice AI Agents helps a patient get what they need, it’s running on a foundation Daniel built and keeps strong.
